Glossary of the Divine and Mortal Tongues

Page

Every Word Was Once a Prayer

This appendix gathers the sacred, arcane, and political languages that shape Idera’s world. Each word carries lineage—some whispered by gods, some forged by kings, and some born in the mouths of those who survived both. The Glossary stands as both dictionary and relic—a map of what Idera has dared to name.

✦ Addendum: On Translation ✦

Translating between divine and mortal tongues is perilous. Each syllable carries consequence; each pause, a spell. Many scribes record only phonetic echoes to avoid invoking what the word once did.

“To name a god in their true tongue is to summon the echo of their birth.” — High Translator Merin of the Third Era

“Varuun” (Kith-Tongue / Breath-Rooted)

Means “the one who runs with the wind.” Derived from varh (breath) and uun (stone-born). Used for wolves as sacred guardians of the mountain passes; implies kinship with the Pillar of Stone.
Usage: “The Varuun howl marks the turning of moons.”
