Plate XIII — The Deadlands

THE DEADLANDS
The Unknown Eastern Lands of Cupis
Unruled · Unclaimed · Unanswered
PRIMARY DESIGNATION
The Deadlands
“Where Claim Fails”
GEOGRAPHIC CONDITION
- Region: Eastern Expanse of Cupis
- Terrain:
- Rotting marshlands (The Morass)
- Collapsed ruins of unknown origin
- Blackened stone outcroppings and skeletal remains
- Water that does not reflect properly
The land appears… exhausted.
As if something has already taken everything worth taking.
CAPITAL — NECROPOLIS
At the center stands:
Necropolis
- Towering black structure with unnatural verticality
- Emits a faint, persistent green light from within
- Surrounded by decay rather than settlement
It is not a capital in the traditional sense.
It is a gathering point.
POPULATION — UNREGULATED
Necropolis draws:
- Outlaws
- Bandits
- Exiles
- Those who could not survive in the other three dominions
But this is the important part:
They are not organized.
They are not unified.
And yet—
They remain.
Archivist’s Note:
Places like this usually collapse under their own chaos. This one hasn’t.
THE MORASS
- Thick, drowning wetlands surrounding Necropolis
- Movement is slow, uncertain, often fatal
- Ground shifts without warning
Marginalia:
“The land decides where you step.”
BLACKSPIRE KEEPS
Scattered across the Deadlands:
- Old fortifications
- No confirmed builders
- Some appear occupied… briefly
Then abandoned again.
Field Note:
Fires have been seen in these keeps.
No one has confirmed who lit them.
SCAVENGER’S GATE
- Entry point used by those desperate or fleeing
- Trade exists—but not openly
- Goods pass through here that do not appear anywhere else on Cupis
PALE SEA
- Still, unnatural waters
- Ships move slowly… if at all
- Sound does not carry properly across it
RULE — UNKNOWN
There is no known ruler of the Deadlands.
No Queen.
No King.
No Chief.
And yet—
Necropolis stands untouched.
Red Ink Annotation:
“Unruled does not mean uncontrolled.”
BEHAVIORAL ANOMALIES
- Groups that enter often do not return
- Those who do… do not speak of what lies deeper within
- Time perception reportedly inconsistent
Cartographer’s Fragment:
“I marked a path.
When I returned, it was no longer there. But something else was.”
SEALED COMPARATIVE ENTRY
Moonhollow contains.
Thornfrost defends.
Mirivune moves.The Deadlands…
endure.
FINAL ANNOTATION — RESTRICTED ACCESS
Necropolis is not holding the Deadlands together.
It is holding something in place.
The people who gather there—
the outlaws, the broken, the forgotten—
are not building a city.
They are gathering around a wound.
