Temple of the Crimson Dusk

Shrine to Celena, Sister of War, Twilight Defender, Blade of Mercy

Location:

Built on a high, wind-scoured ridge where the last light of dusk always lingers. The sky above often bleeds rose and violet. The temple overlooks an ancient battlefield now grown over with silver grass—said to be where Celena first descended during the age of divine war.

Structure:

  • Main Hall (The Hall of Still Blades):
Lined with weapons not for use, but for memory—each surrendered by a warrior who chose peace over blood. Along the walls, bas-reliefs of Celena in battle and in mercy. Candles flicker at her feet, their smoke curling like spirit-offerings.
  • The Veiled Altar:
A blackstone dais framed by moonsteel arches, where an enormous mural of Celena stands cloaked in dusk, one hand raised in battle, the other extended in blessing. Offerings of blood-forged roses and woven dusk-silk are placed here.
  • Courtyard of the Bound Oath:
An open space where dusk-born warriors kneel to swear vows. There are no walls—only twelve stone pillars, each representing a virtue of Celena (such as Restraint, Fire, Grief, Endurance). The wind carries every oath to the high winds.
  • The Silent Pool:
A sacred spring behind the temple, used for visions and reflection. Said to echo the tear that once ended the world, this water shows glimpses of potential futures to those who enter with a true heart.

Sacred Rites:

  • The Dusk Vigil:
Held as the sun falls. Priests and warriors stand in silence as twilight takes hold, each holding a blade wrapped in silk. The silence is broken by a single voice reciting Celena’s Oath:

“I raise my blade not for glory, but for the shielding of those I love.”

  • The Crimson Petition:
Warriors come seeking clarity before battle. They kneel beneath the mural, pressing their foreheads to the stone. If their heart is clouded with vengeance, the altar remains cold. If it is pure—warmth flows through their palms.
  • The Nightflame Dance:
Once a year, the dusk-born perform a firelit dance with twin daggers in the courtyard, symbolizing the eternal tension between destruction and salvation. The dance ends with all blades plunged into the ground.

Legends Say…

  • If a fallen warrior is buried beneath the altar, Celena will carry their soul herself.
  • If the altar weeps blood, it means a great war is coming.
  • Some claim to have seen Celena walking the Silent Pool, barefoot, after midnight.
