Nox Aurelia City

Nox Aurelia
Year 10981
Nox Aurelia is the largest city on the continent and the undisputed heart of wealth, power, vice, and old bloodlines. To outsiders it appears magnificent—a skyline of black glass towers, golden spires, elevated gardens, and eternal city lights. To those who live there, it is a predator wearing a crown.
The city never truly sleeps.
At three in the morning the financial districts remain illuminated. Private clubs still serve powerful men and women. Black cars still move through rain-slick streets. Somewhere, deals worth kingdoms are being negotiated while someone else vanishes forever.
The people of Nox Aurelia have a saying:
“The city always gets what it is owed.”
No one remembers who first spoke those words.
Most believe the city itself did.
The Skyline
Nox Aurelia was built atop older cities.
Then older ruins.
Then older bones.
Every generation built upward rather than outward.
As a result the skyline appears layered.
Ancient cathedrals sit beside modern towers.
Stone gargoyles watch over holographic billboards.
Flying transports pass beneath cathedral bridges suspended hundreds of feet above the streets.
At night the city glows gold, silver, and crimson beneath permanent cloud cover.
The stars are rarely visible.
Many residents have never seen them.

The Crown District
The wealthiest district in existence.
Home to:
- ruling families
- sovereign corporations
- old aristocratic houses
- private embassies
- hidden estates
This is where Vesper’s residence stands.
Not a mansion.
Not a palace.
A fortress pretending to be a luxury estate.
The Crown District is protected by private armies rather than city police.
Most residents possess enough wealth to influence governments.
Others simply own governments.
Cathedral Row
The oldest surviving section of Nox Aurelia.
Massive black cathedrals dominate the skyline.
Some are dedicated to gods.
Others to saints.
A few are dedicated to things no longer worshipped publicly.
The bells ring every midnight.
No one knows who pulls the ropes.
No one has ever found anyone inside the bell towers.
The Velvet Quarter
The district of pleasure.
Music.
Luxury.
Temptation.
Vice.
Every fantasy can be purchased here.
Every weakness can be exploited.
The Velvet Quarter contains:
- elite clubs
- masked galas
- underground casinos
- exclusive auction houses
- forbidden collections
Many powerful figures have been ruined here.
Many more were born here.

Ash Market
The beating criminal heart of the city.
Everything can be bought.
Everything.
Weapons.
Information.
Artifacts.
Memories.
Blood.
Names.
Entire lives.
The market never appears in the same place twice.
Some claim Ash Market moves.
Others claim the city moves around it.
The Hollow District
The poorest section of Nox Aurelia.
Forgotten by politicians.
Ignored by the wealthy.
Owned by gangs.
Towering apartment blocks rise like concrete tombs.
Rainwater drips constantly from elevated highways.
Children learn survival before they learn reading.
Yet despite its brutality, the Hollow District produces some of the city’s most dangerous people.
The city breaks them.
The survivors become monsters.
The Obsidian Harbor
A colossal waterfront where black ships arrive from every corner of the world.
Trade never stops.
Cargo never sleeps.
Neither do the dockworkers.
The Harbor is notorious for disappearances.
Every year hundreds vanish.
Official investigations never find answers.
Unofficial investigations usually end the same way.
With more disappearances.

The Black Gardens
A hidden district known only to the city’s elite.
Ancient gardens surrounded by walls older than recorded history.
White flowers bloom beneath perpetual moonlight.
No birds sing there.
No insects live there.
The air feels strangely quiet.
Many powerful families conduct private meetings among the gardens.
Some swear the flowers listen.
Culture
The people of Nox Aurelia value:
- power
- reputation
- loyalty
- influence
- ambition
Failure is forgiven.
Weakness is not.
The city respects survivors.
It worships victors.
And it fears only one thing:
Someone powerful enough to own the city itself.
Vesper and Heaven’s Place Within Nox Aurelia
To most citizens, Heaven is a mystery.
People know her name.
They know her face.
They know powerful people lower their eyes when she enters a room.
But no one truly understands why.
Then there is Vesper.
The city understands Vesper.
The city fears Vesper.
Criminals fear him.

Politicians fear him.
Corporate kings fear him.
Entire organizations have disappeared after crossing him.
People whisper that Nox Aurelia belongs to many powerful individuals.
Then they lower their voices and add:
“But Heaven belongs to Vesper.”
And in a city where power is the closest thing to religion…
That makes her untouchable.
