River

River
So named by Vu.
Once an ocean god reduced to a river by the slow violence of time and land, River answers now to the name Vu gave him—a naming born not of dominion, but recognition.

As a child, Vu fed his fish without fear, thanked the water for its gifts, and spoke to the river as if it listened. It did. River’s devotion began there: not sudden, not consuming, but patient and absolute. He loved her first as one loves a season—unchanging, observant, unwilling to interfere.

In form, he appears youthful by mortal measure, his beauty unscarred by illness or age, carrying the quiet certainty of something that has never been sick, only diminished. His presence smells of clean water and old stone. His eyes remember coastlines that no longer exist.

His true name is Neferious, God of Rivers—an older title he rarely uses. That name belongs to floods, borders, and claims. River belongs to Vu.

He does not pursue her.
He waits.
