The Pages of the Drowned

📚 The Pages of the Drowned
Type: Sentient Grimoire / Abyssal Scripture
Appearance: Bound in scaled skin; pages shimmer as if wet.
Magic:
Holds the Ritual of Waking—a guide to rousing the sleeping Leviathan. Reading aloud bends water, calls specters, and distorts reality.
Ritual: Breathless Oath — the reader must drown symbolically to earn the Leviathan’s mark.
Cost: Consumes memory and replaces it with fragments of drowned souls.
Weakness: Sunlight fades its words; destruction of one copy births three echoes in dreams.
“Do not wake what remembers drowning.”
☾ On the Deep Song
When the Pages of the Drowned are placed upon the Altar of Mawthan, the two harmonize into a sound that can shake the Veil itself. Scholars call this melody The Deep Song—the hum of creation remembering its first fear.
Legends say the song can either call the Leviathan to rise or lull it back to slumber, depending on who leads the hymn.
Each verse costs a city. Each refrain births a sea.
“When the water hums in your bones, it is already too late to pray.” — Archivist Noen, last drowned scribe
