2.⚔️ Military & Geographic Lexicon — The Speech of War and Land
“The earth remembers every battle. The wise listen to its scars.”
| Term | Tongue / Origin | Definition & Codex Reference |
| The Sentinel Peaks | Southern / Geographic | A jagged, near-impossible mountain range forming the natural border between the Eastern Empire and the Vesper Estates. Legends say that spirits of fallen sentinels still haunt its cliffs. |
| Iron Protocol | Common / Military | Standing order forbidding the use of Mana Threads or direct magic in any engagement involving Noble House troops; a measure intended to preserve honor and prevent catastrophic collateral damage. |
| Root Watch | Noble / Great House | Border guards sworn to the House of Stone; named for their unwavering defense of ancestral Heartlands. Their oath binds them as immovable as the mountains themselves. |
| Sky-Gate Pass | Northern / Strategic | The only navigable route through the Sentinel Peaks, constantly contested for trade and rapid deployment. Travelers often leave offerings to secure safe passage. |
| The Fallow Line | Common / Military | A demilitarized zone of magic-blighted soil where nothing grows; a stark reminder of a ritual gone wrong during the Divine-Mortal War. Crossing it is considered sacrilege by some Houses. |
| Silent Dragoons | Eastern / Imperial Elite | Heavy cavalry trained in anti-magic techniques, forbidden from speaking on campaign. They often enforce the Edict of Embers with ruthless precision. |
| The Azure Breach | Common / Geographic | A massive, permanent fissure in the seabed near the Western coasts, a deep source of high-purity Soul Essence (Wave). Fishermen and mages alike avoid its depths, fearing its unpredictable currents. |
| Vigilance Order | Western / Strategy | A defensive posture of the House of Wave, emphasizing rapid response and tactical misdirection using fog and Veilcraft. Practitioners believe the battlefield itself can be weaponized. |
| The Quartermasters | Common / Military | Highly disciplined, neutral military corps responsible for supplying all four Great Houses during peacetime maneuvers and border disputes; their efficiency is legendary across Idera. |
4. Social & Cultural Codes
“A culture is just a thousand unspoken rules. A ritual is a thousand whispered prayers.”
— Archivist Lir Valen, On the Silent Faiths of Men
I. Northern Realms — House of the North / Pillar of Stone
1. The Veil Feast
Mythic Origin:
The Pillar of Stone wept for mortals who forgot their ancestors, and the gray moss that grew from her tears became the medium through which the dead could partake in the living’s warmth.
Field Record:
“They spoke to empty chairs as if those who once filled them still listened. The air grew dense, soft with memory. I felt I should whisper, lest I disturb the silence of love.”
— Notes of Scholar Eren Vol, Northern Marches
Marginalia:
Never eat from the ancestor’s plate — it’s said their hunger lingers for years.
2. The Silence of Iron
Mythic Origin:
Warriors of the North learned from the Pillar that speech can carry power as sharp as steel. They lay down arms before battle, letting the wind alone speak of courage.
Field Record:
“No word passed between them; only the grinding of armor and the shifting snow. It was as if the mountain itself judged their readiness.”
Marginalia:
Breaking silence draws the enemy’s gaze — the wind remembers.
II. Eastern Realms — House of the East / Sun Courts / Pillar of Dawn
1. Crown of Emberlight
Mythic Origin:
A flame given by the Sun Father symbolizes rebirth and divine favor for those who endure trial and triumph.
Field Record:
“The fire danced upon the crown, small sparks like stars. Those crowned swore to carry the sun’s judgment in every step.”
Marginalia:
If the flame flickers prematurely, misfortune awaits.
2. The Journey-Bread
Mythic Origin:
Pilgrims carry a loaf baked with ashes, a gift from the Sun Father during the great famine of old, teaching endurance and faith.
Field Record:
“The bread was hard as faith, bitter with ash. They said to finish it before the road’s end was to invite death.”
Marginalia:
Keep the last bite for homecoming — or burial.
3. The Sun-Tithe
Mythic Origin:
The first fruits of every harvest are offered to the dawn, feeding the heavens to repay the Sun Father for the life given to mortals.
Field Record:
“The elders whispered as smoke curled upward, their voices threaded with reverence. The villagers followed, bowing in unison.”
Marginalia:
Black smoke signals storm; white smoke, bounty.
III. Western Realms — House of the West / Pillar of Dusk
1. The Binding Oath
Mythic Origin:
Shadow-binding emerged as a moonlit ritual, where promises are etched upon the shadow, unseen by all but the Pillar of Dusk.
Field Record:
“The oath-taker knelt as the moon passed overhead. His shadow stiffened, and I felt the weight of vows heavier than stone.”
Marginalia:
Breaking a binding oath leaves a mark upon memory itself.
2. Harvest of Shadows
Mythic Origin:
Monks burn collected shadows during eclipses, renewing vows and cleansing sin, guided by the wisdom of the Lunar Father.
Field Record:
“The eclipse cast a pallor over the cloister. Shadows, once gathered, hissed and curled into smoke, rising to touch the moon’s edge.”
Marginalia:
Ash mixed with ink writes both prayer and warning.
3. Water-Sworn
Mythic Origin:
Running water is the silent witness of truth; agreements sworn upon it are inviolable, lest the Pillar of Wave itself adjudicate.
Field Record:
“Two merchants spoke over the river; every syllable trembled upon the current. When done, they drank, sealing their honesty in the flowing truth.”
Marginalia:
Red water after oath — beware the drowned judge.
III. Western Realms — Part II — House of the West / Pillar of Dusk
4. The Silence of Food
Mythic Origin:
Among Western Inu, it is said the Lunar Father bestowed a sacred law: a male may partake of nourishment only from his mother or his chosen mate, keeping loyalty and lineage pure. Sharing food otherwise risks the wandering of one’s shadow.
Field Record:
“I observed a young Inu refuse a meal offered by a merchant’s daughter. His eyes lowered respectfully, hands folded. The mother smiled knowingly — the tradition still holds.”
Marginalia:
Breaking this taboo invites shame, and some whisper that the Pillar itself can claim the transgressor’s appetite.
5. Ritual Bathing of the Lunar Father
Mythic Origin:
The Lunar Father is said to have washed in silvered pools alongside his consort, teaching his followers the sanctity of shared water — a private union of purity, trust, and renewal. Only a male and his mate may perform this bathing ritual together.
Field Record:
“The pool’s surface shimmered like the moon. The couple moved as one, cleansing body and spirit. Outsiders are forbidden, even glimpses are taboo.”
Marginalia:
Bathing alone is common; bathing with another is sacred — and never observed by prying eyes.
IV. Southern Realms — House of the Sea / Pillar of Verdure
1. Bloom Rite of Verdure
Mythic Origin:
Planting one’s lifeseed honors the cyclical life force of the Pillar of Verdure, ensuring renewal for family and land.
Field Record:
“Hands deep in soil, they pressed the seed with intent. A single missed planting invites decay in the household.”
Marginalia:
Even weeds planted with care are blessed.
2. Shadow-Naming
Mythic Origin:
The Moon Mother gifted mothers the power to shield a child’s true name from fate, binding it to lunar protection.
Field Record:
“The name whispered to the moon hung in the night air, untouchable by oath-breakers or gods alike.”
Marginalia:
Never utter a child’s shadow-name aloud — the moon’s ear is patient.
3. Ash-Signing
Mythic Origin:
Marking the dead with pyre cinder is a guide through the Aetherveil, a flame left by the Sea-Mother herself.
Field Record:
“Cinder dusted on foreheads; a silent prayer for passage. Those unmarked wander, smudged from memory.”
Marginalia:
Some say the marked dead whisper secrets of the living.
V. Borderlands & Vesper Estates — Neutral Meeting Grounds
1. Feast of Five Voices
Mythic Origin:
A festival of tongues designed to weave peace, where five songs seal accords between diverse peoples.
Field Record:
“Five languages poured into one melody; every misstep corrected by the next voice. Silence is forbidden in the final verse.”
Marginalia:
A single forgotten line can unravel months of diplomacy.
2. The Glass Masque
Mythic Origin:
Masks are worn so that politics dissolve into anonymity, reducing the weight of legacy and bloodline.
Field Record:
“Noble reflections shimmered across the hall. Deals made and forgotten, faces hidden.”
Marginalia:
True faces sometimes trade places; beware the mirrored dagger.
With these additions, Western Realms now has a full set of core customs emphasizing:
- Shadow-bound oaths and lunar loyalty
- Dietary restrictions emphasizing maternal and conjugal bonds
- Sacred bathing rituals for couples
- Shadow-burning and mirror taboos
IV. Southern Realms — Part II — House of the Sea / Pillar of Verdure
4. The Weaving Hymns
Mythic Origin:
The Pillar of Root once sang to the soil, and early weavers imitated her voice. These droning songs infuse fiber and craft with protection, preserving them from elemental decay and time itself.
Field Record:
“The workshop hummed like a living thing. Every shuttle of the loom traced a note, every thread a verse. The air itself seemed woven tight, tangible with magic.”
Marginalia:
A tapestry that hums means a verse was forgotten — or remembered by something else.
5. The Journey-Bread
Mythic Origin:
Born of the Sun Father’s test of endurance, this dense, ash-baked loaf accompanies travelers on long roads. It teaches patience, resilience, and respect for the journey itself.
Field Record:
“Each crumb carried the weight of miles walked and mountains crossed. Travelers shared a bite only with consent, for it is said the bread carries their fate.”
Marginalia:
Never consume the loaf before the journey’s end, lest the road itself rebel.
V. Borderlands & Vesper Estates — Part II — Neutral Meeting Grounds
3. The Glass Masque
Mythic Origin:
Emerging after centuries of political strife, the Glass Masque dissolves hierarchy for a night. Nobles wear masks, ensuring anonymity and allowing diplomacy without bloodshed.
Field Record:
“Silvered faces glimmered under candlelight. Deals were made, promises whispered, and enemies smiled as strangers. Power hid behind glass.”
Marginalia:
Watch the reflections, not the faces — sometimes, a mask can speak louder than words.
4. Feast of Five Voices
Mythic Origin:
A festival born from necessity: five cultures, five languages, one song to seal peace. Silence is forbidden, and every voice contributes a verse of forgiveness and intent.
Field Record:
“Five tongues poured in harmony. Even when one faltered, another caught the cadence. I felt that for one night, war itself paused to listen.”
Marginalia:
One false note can unravel months of negotiation — but only the wise hear it.
